महाभारत कालीन ऐतिहासिक विराट नगरी जयपुर से 85 कि.मी. की दूरी पर राजमार्ग संख्या 13 पर स्थित अरावली पर्वत के नैसर्गिक सौन्दर्य से घिरी यह प्राचीन नगरी जैन, बौद्ध, सनातन सभी धर्मो की धरोहर को अपने में समेटे हुए है। यहां 16वीं शताब्दी में निर्मित नसिया में बाग, बगीचे फव्वारे प्राचीन राजसी वैभव का प्रतीक है। यहां विराजमान 1008 भगवान पार्श्वनाथ की प्रतिमा 400 वर्ष प्राचीन है।
आचार्य शुभचन्द्र स्वामी की तपोभूमि तथा जैन मुनि श्री विमलसूरीजी की जन्मभूमि इस नगरी में मुख्य बाजार में दो भव्य प्राचीन दिगम्बर जैन मन्दिर, दिलवाडा शैली में निर्मित 16वीं शताब्दी का श्वेताम्बर जैन मंदिर स्थित है। सम्राट अशोक ने बौद्ध धर्म के प्रचारार्थ यहां शिलालेखों एवं स्तूपो का निर्माण करवाया था जिनमें से अनेक आज भी देखे जा सकते है। सनातन धर्म से संबंधित 52 शक्तिपीठों में से मनसा माता का 40वां शक्तिपीठ भी यहां पहाडियों पर स्थित है।

कागदीपुरा (नालछा) में प्रागैतिहासिक काल से मुगलकाल तक के खण्डहरों के अवशेष विद्यमान है। प्राचीनतम अवशेषों के रूप में जैन तीर्थंकर नेमिनाथ की छठी शताब्दी की पद्मासन प्रतिमा ध्यानस्थ मुद्रा में है। यहां सन् 2007 मे खुदाई में भगवान आदिनाथ की पद्मासन प्रतिमा, भगवान महावीर की स्लेटी पत्थर की प्रतिमा तथा दो लांछन विहीन तीर्थकर प्रतिमाएं प्राप्त हुई है। यहां कलियुग के कालिदास कहे जाने वाले पंडित आशाधर द्वारा स्थापित नेमिनाथ जिनालय, साहित्य मंदिर एवं विद्यापीठ के अवशेष प्राप्त हुए है।

देश भर में दूरदूर तक स्थित अपने दिगम्बर जैन तीर्थयों की सेवा-सम्हाल करके उन्हें एक संयोजित व्यवस्था के अंतर्गत लाने के लिए किसी संगठन की आवश्यकता है , यह विचार उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी समाप्त होने के पूर्वसन् 1899 ई. में, मुंबई निवासी दानवीर, जैन कुलभूषण, तीर्थ भक्त, सेठ माणिकचंद हिराचंद जवेरी के मन में सबसे पहले उदित हुआ ।
